Launching! and other such actions
Some things to announce and people to thank!
It is a little late in coming – but nonetheless – Cara and I would like to thank everyone who came along to the launch of Burley’s first issue the other week at Smith’s Alternative Bookshop.
It was a great night, if I don’t say so myself – and after all, between the earl grey cupcakes that Cara made and the table-spread of fortified dairy products that I (rather) lazily purchased, how could it not be?
Japes aside though, we’d like to thank everyone who came along.*
All of those who purchased a copy, who dragged their friends and family along, who stood up and gave a reading (Adam, Sam and Anita!), and everyone who couldn’t come but sent their best wishes: thank you.
It was lovely to meet our contributors – to put a face to a name is sometimes revelatory – and get to chat in person.
We sold a quarter of the print run that night, and all of the proceeds of that are going to be fed back into our second and third issues this year – they’ll be bigger and better each time.
If you didn’t pick up a copy last week though, feel free to mosey on in to Smith’s Alternative Bookshop, the Co-op Bookshops at the ANU and UC, and the bookshop at the National Library – copies are available from all for $12.
Submissions for Issue 2 close on July 1st, so get your pencils sharpened and your paper readied – we’d love to find a place for your wonderful words!
*You can thank Game of Thrones for introducing the word ‘jape’ to my everyday vocabulary, by the way. Having devoured the books and TV series like they were cake and I was Augustus Gloop, reality and Westboros is bleeding into one…
